On Sunday 2nd February our 5th and 6th Class travelled to the RDS in Dublin to take part in the Peace Proms.

The children performed with the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland and a host of top soloists in a concert on the day. The children sang with a choir of up to 3,000 children and worked with one of the UK’s leading professional conductors – Greg Beardsell. It was noisy but brilliant! Well done to the children on all their hard work learning all the songs and actions. Thank you to our Board of Management and Parents Association for subsidising the cost of the bus and thank you to our parents that travelled to see us, we hope you all enjoyed the show!

It has been a busy few weeks for pupils in Scoil Bhríde in the lead up to Christmas.  It began with Junior and Senior Infants performing The Nativity, followed by 1st to 6th Class performing in our Christmas Carol service.  The pupils were brilliant and displayed a wide range of talents which brought great joy to all in attendance.  Classes took a stroll down to the Village to have a closer look at all the wonderful Christmas decorations and displays.  Fifth and Sixth Class wrote Christmas cards for residents of the local nursing home.  Finally, we were treated to a visit by Mr and Mrs Santa Claus.  

During the first term pupils in Scoil Bhríde learned all about their local area.  Pupils researched and completed projects on Lough Sheelin, Ross Castle, Schools through the Ages, The Dungimmon Stone, Crover House, Church Island, The Legend of Orwin and Sebana and  Mountnugent Village. 

We also had the pleasure of having local historian Joe Moynagh visit our school to share his amazing knowledge and stories about Mountnugent with classes.  Finally, just before Midterm, 5th and 6th class pupils enjoyed a wonderful day out with Joe, Ms Browne and Ms Rahill visiting some of the local historical sites.   It was clear to see that pupils really enjoyed learning all about their local area and gained lots of knowledge too.  

Scoil Bhríde celebrated ‘Friendship Week’ in September.  In 5th /6th Class we discussed the importance of Friendship, had a ‘Secret Pal’, made cards for our ‘Buddies’ and completed some ‘Friendship’ art. 

We held our Annual Sports Day on Friday 31st May. It was a terrific day full of spills and thrills! Ms Browne presented each child with a certificate and an ice-lolly for their outstanding contribution and participation. Well done to all!

5th and 6th Class pupils enjoyed a trip to Dáil Éireann on Tuesday 7th May.  They were greeted at the gates of the Dáil by local TD Johnny Guirke and were shown around the grounds before our official tour.  

Pupils completed The 1916 Easter Rising and The Irish Free State units in History which aided them in understanding their tour.   They also did projects on each of the sixteen Taoisigh.  

It was a very enjoyable day and one which they will always remember.
